The Miami Heat have made another move before Thursday’s 3 p.m. trade deadline, trading former Vol forward Jarnell Stokes to the New Orleans Pelicans for a protected draft pick. Stokes played for Tennessee from 2011-2014, averaging 13 points and ten rebounds over 87 games.

In his two NBA seasons, Stokes has already bounced around the league. He was originally a second-round draft pick by the Utah Jazz in 2014, but was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies later that night. After signing a multi-year deal with the Grizzlies, he began receiving assignments from the Iowa Energy in the NBA Development League.

Stokes was involved in a trade earlier this season when the Grizzlies shipped he and Beno Udrih to the Miami Heat for Mario Chalmers and James Ennis. Despite the new location, he was again placed in the D-League, playing for the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

In 39 D-League games, Stokes has averaged a double-double, recording 17 points and 10 rebounds per game. He has not found similar success in the NBA. Stokes has started only twice in his career, averaging just two points per game.
