Video: Butch Jones’ Monday press conference

Tennessee head football coach Butch Jones spoke at his weekly Monday press conference at Ray and Lucy Hand Digital Studio.

Jones recapped the Vols 24-10 homecoming win over Southern Miss, gave injury updates, and previewed Tennessee’s matchup with Missouri under the lights on Saturday.

Focusing on the small details and only logging three penalties the whole game helped the Vols win in Neyland Stadium on Saturday night according to Jones. “We controlled the field position until midway through the fourth quarter,” said Jones. He also commended true freshman quarterback Will McBride in his first game as a Vol, and said that he was pleased with starting quarterback Jarrett Guarantano’s rhythm in the pocket.

However, just like every Monday, the laundry list of injuries grew longer for Tennessee after their win over Southern Miss.

Starting quarterback Jarrett Guarantano and cornerback Shawn Shamburger were both listed as probable for the Missouri game. Offensive linemen Drew Richmond and Brett Kendrick, as well as wide receiver Marquez Callaway were tabbed as questionable. Offensive lineman Marcus Tatum, receiver Latrell Williams and Evan Berry will all miss Saturday’s game. Berry, a senior, will miss the remainder of the season.

Jones then shifted his focus to the Missouri Tigers who are on a 3-game win streak after a big win over Florida last week. Jones admired Tigers quarterback Drew Lock, saying that he had “as quick of a release as anybody” and will “play for a long time on Sundays.” He was also quick to note the improving Missouri defense and the confidence they have gained in recent weeks.

Vols punter Trevor Daniel spoke about his Ray Guy Award expectations and how the weather affects his ability to punt the ball.
