Grubbs named to SEC All-Freshman team

Tennessee outside hitter Tessa Grubbs was named part of the All-SEC Freshman team, marking the second straight year a Vol was named to the team.

Tennessee outside hitter Tessa Grubbs was named to the SEC All-Freshman team on Wednesday, becoming the only Vol to receive SEC season honors.

Grubbs’ selections marks the second straight year a Tennessee player has been selected to the SEC All-Freshman team, as current sophomore Erica Treiber was picked last year.

Grubbs, who is from Tega Gay, South Carolina, leads Tennessee with 3.64 kills per set. Her 313 kills leads the team as well, and ranks second in the SEC only to Freshman of the Year Leah Edmonds from Kentucky.

According to UTSports.com, Grubbs’ 3.64 kills per set would be the fourth-highest average for a Tennessee players since 2009.

Tennessee finishes its season at Missouri on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET.
