Opinion: Flow Brew Parlor unlike most classic coffee shops
Katy Hill’s Knoxville coffeeshop hunt continues this week at Flow Brew Parlor.
Halloween may be over, but the fall season continues as we turn our clocks back.
This week, I’m introducing you guys to Flow Brew Parlor in the heart of the financial district at the corner of Locust and Main.
This place is unlike any other classic coffee shop I have been to.
Of course, they offer coffee and espresso, but what truly makes them unique is their selection of beers on tap.
Stop by Saturday evening to start your night off right with one (or two) of their four local brews on tap. Ask the barista some questions, as well. They really know their stuff when it comes to beer here. Bring your friends because there is quite a bit of seating at larger tables by the window. The laid back atmosphere is welcoming to all guests.
If you wake up Sunday morning (or afternoon) and need a little boost to cure that sleepy headache, this is a great place to visit. They offer drip coffee as well as classic espresso drinks and pastries. You won’t find very many super sweet lattes here! I enjoyed a Café Cubano, which is something I have actually never tried before. It features a double shot of espresso mixed with a small amount of raw sugar and topped with a thick, sweet micro-foam crema. It was only slightly sweet with a bit of a tang to it. The crema on top makes this a truly special drink.
The first time I came here, of course, I tried the dirty chai latte. It was quite spicy which is how I like it. If you are feeling in the mood for something seasonal, I would suggest trying the Café Miel. This drink is fantastic and includes fall-like flavors such as honey and cinnamon (a couple of my favorites). I assume this would be a great hangover cure.
Don’t forget to ask about their food menu. They offer seasonal selections like the three bean chili and butternut squash soup as well as other tasty items. Yum!
As you experience Flow, notice the modern and traditional aspects of the interior coming together to form an interesting and fun look. There will always be a record spinning on the turn table playing jazz and blues tunes to add to the atmosphere.
