Vols down Golden Eagles 84-63

The Tennessee Vols men’s basketball team returned to action in Thompson-Boling arena Saturday and took down Tennessee Tech thanks to a dominating 2^nd half performance.

Tennessee Tech came out shooting lights out from beyond the arc and went up by as much as seven in the first half, but Tennessee made a late run to take a one point lead heading into the locker room. The Vols continued to pull away after halftime, going on a 22-1 run to cushion the lead and secure the sixth win of the season for the Volunteers.

Junior forward Jarnell Stokes dominated the paint all throughout the game and recorded his fourth consecutive double-double, finishing with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Jeronne Maymon also had himself a good performance, recording seven rebounds, 13 points, and made all three of his shots from the free-throw line. Junior guard Josh Richardson had his best performance of the season scoring 13 points, knocking down two from three-point range, and adding some very athletic plays including a tough “and-one”. Senior star forward Jordan McRae added 16 points in the Vols victory, but only shot 5-12 from the field.

Tennessee Tech shot 50% from three, which was the only reason they stood a chance against the much more talented Tennessee Volunteers. The Golden Eagles also hurt themselves from the line, only converting on 3 of their 12 free throw attempts while the Vols went 16-25 from the line. Tennessee did a great job with taking care of the ball, which has been a good trend this year for the Vols, only recording five turnovers in the game. The Tennessee Vols are back in action on December 14, when they travel to Kansas to take on Wichita State.
