Head coach Ken Whisenhunt has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of the Tennessee Titans.

Whisenhunt was only able to win three of his 23 games coached and hasn’t won a game at home in over a year. The news broke this morning after the Titans lost their sixth straight game in Houston on Sunday.

Former assistant head coach and tight ends coach, Mike Mularkey, will serve as the interim head coach for the Titans. He has over 20 years of coaching experience, three of them serving as the head coach for the Bills and the Jaguars. Mularkey was also an offensive coordinator for the Steelers and Falcons before coming to Tennessee.

Whisenhunt had success as head coach for the Cardinals before coming to Tennessee. He took Arizona to Super Bowl XLIII and also won a Super Bowl with the Steelers in 2005 as an offensive coordinator. While Whisenhunt was considered to be a good quarterback developer, he failed to do so with Zach Mettenberger, who arguably has all of the tools to be an NFL-caliber quarterback.

It looks like Titans’ ownership has decided it wanted someone else to develop No. 2 overall pick Marcus Mariota.
