Tennessee Titans aggressive in free agency so far

The Tennessee Titans claimed that they would be aggressive in free agency after their poor showing in 2014, going 2-14.

On Tuesday, the first official day of free agency, the Titans kept true to their word and signed two players at positions where they needed depth.

The Titans signed safety Da’Norris Searcy to a four-year $24 million contract after his impressive season last year. He started 13 games for the Bills in 2014 and registered 65 tackles and three interceptions. He’s definitely a good pickup for Tennessee and will strengthen the secondary, which is much needed after Bernard Pollard decided to leave town and Michael Griffin’s poor all-around showing last year.

The Titans also signed former Atlanta Falcon receiver Harry Douglas to a three-year contract. While he is 30 years old, in 2013 he had a 1,067 yard season and can definitely still contribute to the offense. He will join a small receiver group, which includes Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter.

The Titans are nowhere close to being done with signing players. This week they are bringing in former Washington Redskin Brian Orakpo for a visit. He is a 28-year-old outside linebacker who is good in the 3-4. Since the Titans looked like they were still feeling out their new defense last season, it would be nice to have a leader who knows that scheme.

Tennessee will also try to resign outside linebacker Derrick Morgan. While the 3-4 scheme isn’t best suited for him, he recorded 43 total tackles, 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles last season for the Titans. The Titans were also in pursuit of former Steeler linebacker Jason Worilds, but he surprisingly retired earlier this morning.
