A study conducted bi-annually for 20 years shows that the homelessness rate in Knoxville has been steadily increasing since the early 1980s, according to data compilations collected by Dr. Roger Nooe, the director of social services for the Knox County Public Defender’s Office.
Historic Preservation in Knoxville has seen ups and downs since the movement formally began in the 1970s with the founding of Knox Heritage, a non profit group dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic buildings in East Tennessee. The past 40 years has seen success stories with beautiful buildings restored to their former glory, and unfortunate total losses of history.
