Lady Vols volleyball leave Tuscaloosa with strong win

The University of Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball team swept Alabama in Tuscaloosa on Nov. 10.

The Lady Vols (11-12, 5-8 SEC) traveled to Tuscaloosa to take on the Lady Crimson Tide (12-11, 4-8 SEC) and managed to leave with a dominant win on Nov. 10.

The Lady Vols managed to defeat the Lady Crimson Tide 3-0, with each set ending with a score of 25-18. Five Lady Vols had eight or more kills in the game, while the team produced an SEC season-best .419 hitting percentage according to Tennessee Athletics.

The three-set sweep would be the Lady Vols’ first over Alabama since the 2016 season according to Tennessee Athletics.

Senior Tessa Grubbs led the team in kills with eleven, four of which came in the first set. The fourth kill from Grubbs put her top 10 in kills in Lady Vols program history according to Tennessee Athletics.

Senior Sedona Hansen leads all players in assists with 37, having more than double the amount of the next player. Hansen finished with 11 digs to record another double-double performance, leading the team in both digs and assists.

The Lady Vols managed to hold the Crimson Tide to a .206 hitting percentage and 32 kills in the match.

The .419 hitting percentage is Tennessee’s second-highest of the season, just shy of the .427 against North Dakota State University according to Tennessee Athletics.

Grubbs praised her teammates saying she owes a lot to her them.

“It’s really exciting. I’ve had ups and downs and the team around me has really allowed me to get to this point. I owe a lot of credit to the setters and to everyone who’s played around me,” Grubbs said about entering the top ten in kills.
