Opinion: 5 Seconds of Summer wows crowd in Music City
5 Seconds of Summer headlined their first show in Nashville, Tenn. at Bridgestone Arena on July 23, 2016.
Opening with a track from their sophomore album, “Sounds Good, Feels Good,” and closing with their hit single “She Looks So Perfect,” Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer melted the hearts of nearly 20,000 fans Saturday night.
Headlining their first concert in Nashville, Tenn. at Bridgestone Arena, 5 Seconds of Summer’s energetic stage presence kept the audience on their feet for the two hour set list, performing several crowd favorites.
According to 5 Seconds of Summer guitarist, Michael Clifford, it was important that every fan had the “best night of [their] life” before leaving the venue. Halfway through the show, Clifford kept the crowd screaming for nearly five minutes before singing the crowd favorite “Jet Black Heart,” in order to truly soak in the moment.
Toward the end of the concert, the band surprised the crowd by performing their newly released single, “Girls Talk Boys” that is featured on the new “Ghostbusters” album and film.
“I was surprised so many people knew the lyrics to “Girls Talk Boys” since it just came out like two days ago,” Anna Flippo, a concert attendee, said.
5 Seconds of Summer proved they do not fit in the “boy band” category. Not only does the band write their own songs and play their own instruments, they show a clear love and adoration for their fans. Through their humble personalities and pop punk sound, there is a level of authenticity to them that is hard to describe but keeps fans wanting more.
