Lady Vols volleyball fall 3-2 to the Ole Miss Lady Rebels

The Tennessee Lady Vols volleyball team (6-5, 0-1 SEC) took on the Ole Miss Lady Rebels (9-3, 1-0 SEC) on the road and left with a tough loss.

The Lady Vols took the first set 25-20, but in the second set they struggled early. They managed to tie the game back up at 19, but the Lady Rebels came out of the second set with a 26-24 win.

Tied 1-1, Tennessee started the third set strong, taking an early 9-2 lead over the Lady Rebels. With a significant lead, the Lady Vols looked in position to secure the set, but Ole Miss made a push late. The Lady Rebel comeback fell short, and Tennessee won the set 25-19.

In the fourth set, the Lady Vols and the Lady Rebels stayed neck and neck. Neither team was able to gain a considerable lead until Ole Miss jumped ahead big and took the set 22-24.

With a lot on the line in the fifth and final set, the evenly matched teams fought to gain an advantage. The Lady Rebels found that advantage and took a 10-7 lead.

Despite Ole Miss not having a huge lead, Tennessee was unable to defeat the Lady Rebels as they fell in the final set 15-13.

As usual with close losses, Tennessee had a few positive takeaways.

Tennessee senior Sedona Hansen set a new career-high with her 52nd double-double in her collegiate career and her fifth this season, according to Tennessee Athletics.

Sophomore Danielle Mahaffey also set a career high with 17 kills and 21 digs.

Junior Madison Coulter led the team with 34 assists on defense.

Looking forward, the Lady Vols will host Texas A&M on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
