UT School of Music hosts fall violin night
Fall Violin Night was hosted in Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall. Violinists got the opportunity to play pieces from classical artists.
On Tuesday, Nov. 19 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., the Natalie Haslam Music Center hosted the Fall Violin Night in the Sandra G. Powell Recital Hall.
Students of Mirolav Hristov performed violin pieces on stage by various artists. Those artists included J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, Max Bruch, Felix Mendelssohn, Adam Khachaturian, Camille Saint-Saëns, Fritz Kreisler, Johannes Brahms and Maurice Ravel.
Will Eaking, a junior at the University of Tennessee, attended the recital. He is also a violin student of Hristov’s studio.
“Dr. Hristov does such a great job at preparing his students for the professional world,” Eaking said.
Hristov introduced the recital on stage before the students all performed back to back.
The pianists who accompanied some performers were Jing-Fang Huang, Katherine Benson and Shin-Wen Twu.
“I really liked the Brahms concerto that Yeiji Choi played really beautifully,” Michael Perry, a violinist and second-year artist at UT, said. “There was a lot of different characters and emotions; I thought it was very generate, beautiful playing.”
Some audience members were not a part of the School of Music but simply came to listen.
Jenna Shoonheim, a first-year student at UT, attended because she knew a few students in the School of Music and wanted to show her support.
“I was encouraged by a few friends to come see this performance and I’m really glad I did,” Shoonheim said. “I didn’t know what to expect but I was able to see how much movement is created by these pieces.”
Each semester, a different studio in the School of Music performs a recital.
