Tennessee unable to avoid the sweep at South Carolina

The Lady Vols (9-10, 3-6 SEC) traveled to South Carolina to take on the Gamecocks (12-8, 4-4 SEC) in an SEC matchup on Friday, but were unable to avoid the sweep and lost 0-3.

This was a tough loss for the Lady Vols, as it brings them back down below .500 on the season. The Lady Vols played hard in the first set but fell 15-25 despite having one more attempt than the Gamecocks.

The second set would prove to be the closest and most hard-fought in the game, with the Lady Vols narrowly losing the set 28-30 while having 14 kills. The third set would not prove to be as close as the second, as the Lady Vols lost the third and final set 16-25.

However, the third set was the most efficient for the Lady Vols. Tennessee 11 kills in 34 total attempts, but could not pull out a set victory.

Despite the loss, there were some positive takeaways for the Lady Vols. Senior Tessa Grub led all players with 12 kills, doing her best to keep the Lady Vols in the game, and also inching closer to being top 10 in kills in program history, being now 77 away.

Sophomore Gianna Pellizzon set a career-high with 3 aces, according to Tennessee Athletics. This surpassed her previous record of 2, and lead all players in the match.

Senior Sedona Hansen led the Lady Vols in assists with 24, while the rest of her team combined for 9. Hansen also had 8 digs, which put her 88 away from being top 10 all-time in Lady Vols history according to Tennessee Athletics.

Sophomore Lily Felts lead the Lady Vols in digs with 11 total.

Looking forward, the Lady Vols will travel to take on their third-ranked team in four games against the No. 13 Florida Lady Gators (16-3, 7-1 SEC) on Oct. 27.
