Opinion: 'The Jungle Book' is family-friendly fun

The 2016 version of “The Jungle Book” was released on Friday, April 15.

The thrilling adventure film follows a young boy named Mowgli, known around the jungle as a man-cub raised by a family of wolves. Mowgli is played by twelve-year-old actor Neel Sethi, who brings a spirited, heartwarming kindness to the character. It is easy for the audience to fall in love with Mowgli and root for him as he embarks on a captivating journey of self discovery.

Mowgli has to deal with a threatening tiger named Shere Khan, voiced by Idris Elba, who no longer wants Mowgli to be a part of the jungle. This forces Mowgli to face many obstacles. Thankfully, he has his panther mentor, voiced by Ben Kingsley, and his goofy friend Baloo, voiced by Bill Murray, to get him out of sticky situations along the way.

Director Jon Favreau was really able to bring the jungle and its many characters to life. Overall, the film was very visually pleasing, and it was magical seeing the animals speak as if they were real. Watching Mowgli interact with the creatures throughout the film made you want to be a part of it. The visual effects and imagery were also breathtaking.

It’s obvious as to why so many known actors and actresses took part in this masterpiece. The film could easily be appreciated by children and adults. You are missing out on a one of a kind family-friendly film if you don’t get to see this movie.
