Ladies and gents, if you are into thrilling science fiction movies, the recently released film “Criminal” is for you.

The film, which is directed by Ariel Vromen, is all about stopping a diabolical plot. A dead CIA agent, played by Ryan Reynolds, is the only one with the memories and knowledge to stop this plot from playing out. In an attempt to end the corruption, a scientist and doctor by the name of Franks, played by Tommy Lee Jones, implants the agent’s memories, secrets and skills into a dangerous death row inmate in hopes he will be able to complete the agent’s mission.

The phenomenal Kevin Costner, who is the backbone of this movies, plays the inmate named Jericho Stewart. His strong role keeps the audience interested in his every move. Costner’s performance makes up for some of the dull moments the movie presents. He also adds comedic relief while still staying true to his serious character.

The movie is filled with lots of action that would have really wowed the crowd if there were more time and money. Despite the lack of effects, the movie still keeps its audience on their toes because they will always want to know what is going to happen next.

A love story presents itself when Jericho starts receiving some of the dead agent’s memories because he can now feel emotions he had never felt before. The dead agent’s wife, played by Gal Gadot, and his daughter, played by Lara Decaro, starts to impact how the once terrifying and abusive Jericho acts and perceives emotion. It adds depth to the narrative and allows the audience to catch their breath from all the action taking place.

Thankfully, due to Kevin Costner’s performance and the director’s ability to capture both action and emotion, this movie receives a solid thumbs up.
