Holston Middle School Show Choir performed “Shrek The Musical Jr.” on March 26-28. The performance was directed by Natalee Beeler Elkins. The production coordinator Taylor Branson and choreographer Daniel Lineberger also assisted in the making of the musical. The Show Choir consists of students at Holston Middle School.

“Shrek The Musical, Jr.” tells the non-traditional fairytale of an isolated ogre who wants nothing to do with the big bright beautiful world that surrounds him. As the play begins Shrek finds his swap infested with all different types fairytale characters that were banished from the kingdom of Duloc by Lord Farquaad.

In order to gain his privacy back, Shrek travels to the kingdom of Duloc with the company of his persistent and humorous sidekick, Donkey. Lord Farquaad agrees to grant Shrek’s swamp back with the agreement that Shrek must rescue the beautiful Princess Fiona from her tower. Shrek embarks on this journey and finds himself questioning true love and what defines a perfect fairytale.

Holston Middle School’s Hunter Webb and Rachel McFarling as well as Josie Huff played the lead roles of Shrek and Princess Fiona. 8th grader, Kariah Cook played the role of Donkey.

Cook was excited to work with her fellow students and had fun with the cast throughout the production.

“The group is very close bonded and we worked hard together in practice for the musical,” Cook said.

This was Cook’s first musical production. The production manager Zachary Huff and several other students spent many Saturdays on the set designs and put in a lot of hard work to prepare for the production.
