Firing Up Freedom Tour comes to campus
The Young Americans for Freedom will be hosting Kate Obenshain Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7 p.m. in room 321 of the Communications Building. The lecture will be held as a part of the “Firing Up Freedom” tour.
The Young Americans of Freedom is a student organization on campus. The organization is an affiliate of the nationwide organization Young America’s Foundation. Young America’s Foundation, founded in 1969, is focused on providing informational resources to the public about the conservative party and getting people involved in the conservative movement. Young Americans for Freedom is the student branch of the organization and is centered on encouraging college students to join the conservative movement.
Obenshain was the first female chairman of the Virginia GOP and served from 2006 to 2008 as well as the vice president of Young Americans for Freedom from 2008 to 2012. She will be giving a lecture focused on the importance of voting and student involvement in the conservative moment. A meet-and-greet will be held before the lecture so students and members of the community will be able to speak to Obenshain.
Michael Hensley, president of the Young Americans for Freedom UT chapter, said that he is excited to have her on campus.
“I saw her speak once before,” Hensley said. “I knew that I had to get her to come to speak here.”
