Beginning Wednesday September 11, All Campus Theatre from the University of Tennessee will present their second show of the season, The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, directed by McKinley Merritt.

“It’s Tennessee Williams’ dramatic interpretation of his life,” said Kolt Free, a junior in College Scholars and actor playing Tom Wingfield. “He takes the characters and puts elements of his family into them and what happened in his life. But it’s also telling a story about a dysfunctional family that are all trying to improve their lives but they can’t figure out how.”

The Glass Menagerie is a “memory play” set in the late 1930s, by Tennessee Williams. The play features a dysfunctional family of three and one man who disrupts their lives for a brief moment.

“I’m hoping that people will watch this play and find something in themselves that they can relate to each character in the play,” said Rachel Finney, a senior English major and actress playing Laura Wingfield.  “Maybe this play will help them think about their own lives in connection to the people that are closest to them.”

All Campus Theatre has been working on the performance for about three months.

“I’m hoping that this show will be accessible to the audience,” said Karissa Kirsch, a junior English major and actress playing Amanda Wingfield. “I’m hoping that the most important facets of it will come across and that the show will be a success.”

Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. is the free preview. Performances from Thursday, Sept. 12 through Saturday, Sept. 14 will begin at 7 p.m. The closing show will be on Sunday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. Saturday will also include a performance at 2 p.m. The play will be held in UT’s Wesley Foundation located at 1718 Melrose Ave.

Tickets are free for students with a student ID card and $5 for faculty and non-students. Parking will be available in the staff lot on Lake Ave.
