Candidates line up for 2020 presidential election
Candidates are gearing up for the 2020 presidential election. There are still more potential candidates who have yet to make a final decision to join the future election.
The primaries are more than a year away. However, many candidates have already announced they are running for the 2020 presidential election. There are 12 Democrats and two Republicans.
Here are the candidates and their platforms:
Democrats
Cory Booker (D) – A senator from New Jersey and the former mayor of Newark, Booker has been a leader in the Senate on criminal justice reform. In addition, Booker already has an Iowa state lawmaker’s endorsement.
Pete Buttigieg (D)– The mayor of South Bend, Indiana and a military veteran, Buttigieg has called on policies for issues like climate change and economic opportunity.
Julián Castro (D)- Castro is a former housing secretary and the former mayor of San Antonio. He has focused on immigration reform and has said “Medicare for all.”
John Delaney (D)- Delaney is a former congressman from Maryland. He has been running since 2017 and calls himself a bipartisan problem-solver. Additionally, he has endorsed things like universal health care.
Tulsi Gabbard (D) – Gabbard is a congresswoman from Hawaii and a national guard veteran. She supported Bernie Sanders in the 2018 primaries. Gabbard has opposition to American Military intervention overseas.
Kirsten Gillibrand (D)- Gillibrand is a New York senator. In addition, she is a former congresswoman of a conservative house district. However, she has transformed herself into one of the Senate’s leading liberal voices in President Trump’s Washington.
Kamala Harris (D)- Harris is a senator from California and the former attorney general of California. Furthermore, she unveiled a middle-class tax cut legislation last fall.
Amy Klobuchar (D)- A senator for Minnesota, Klobuchar wants to combat the opioid crisis and drug addiction. Additionally, she wants to lower the cost of prescription drugs.
Bernie Sanders (D)- Sanders is a senator from Vermont and the runner-up in the 2016 Democratic primary. Moreover, he describes himself as a democratic socialist. In addition, one thing he wants to tackle is free college tuition.
Elizabeth Warren (D)- A senator from Massachusetts, Warren wants income equality. She sees the middle class as “being under attack” from political corruption.
Marianne Williamson (D)- A self-help author, Williamson has proposed $100 billion in reparations for slavery.
Andrew Yang (D)- Yang is a former tech executive who founded an economic development nonprofit. He wants to establish a universal basic income of $1,000 per month for all Americans.
Republicans
Donald J. Trump (R)- The current U.S. president, Trump has focused on undoing the policies of the Obama administration. Meanwhile, he wants to restrict immigration and build a wall at the Mexican border.
William F. Weld (R)- The former governor of Massachusetts, Weld emerges as a vocal critic of Trump and favors free trade. He has also endorsed steps to legalize marijuana.
