Tennessee meets Georgia on Saturday in Neyland Stadium. The Vols are looking to turn around a disappointing first half of the season. Here are 15 facts to get you ready for this SEC showdown. The overall series record between the two teams is 21-21-2.

1. The last meeting between the two teams was Sept. 27 of last year with Georgia winning the matchup, 35-32.

2. The first meeting was in 1899 when Tennessee won with an odd score of 5-0.

3. One of the two tied games in the history of the series happened during their third meeting in 1906. The two teams tied with a rare score of 0-0.

4. Georgia has won the past five meetings. Tennessee is looking to break the streak, which would be their first win against Georgia since 2009.

5. Tennessee holds the longest winning streak in the history between the two teams with nine straight wins, spanning from 1989-1999.

6. Since 1992, the ‘Dawgs and Vols have both been in the SEC’s Eastern Division and have met each year.

7. The largest margin of victory overall was Tennessee by 46 points in 1936 at Sanford Stadium in Athens. The Vols won, 46-0.

8. The largest margin of victory for Georgia in the series is 44 points. In 1981 at Sanford Stadium, Georgia cruised to a 44–0 victory.

9. Though the series is tied 21–21–2 as of last year, it is not always very balanced or evenly matched. Georgia did not win a single game against Tennessee in the entire decade of the 1990’s, and Tennessee has yet to beat Georgia even once this decade.

10. From 1899-1989, UT and UGA met only 21 times before the SEC expanded to 12 members and split into eastern and western divisions.

11. Tennessee and Georgia are the second and third-winningest football programs in SEC history, behind Alabama.

12. In the notable 2001 game, the ‘Hobnail Boot’ game, Tennessee was ranked No. 6 as it faced UGA coach Mark Richt for the first time. The lead was traded multiple times, but Tennessee ended up losing the game in the waning seconds. Storied Georgia announcer Larry Munson said “We just stepped on their face with a hobnail boot and broke their nose.”

13. In 2007, unranked Tennessee ran all over No. 12 Georgia in Knoxville, which earned them a 35–14 victory. Georgia and Tennessee finished the season tied for first in the SEC, but the Vols’ head-to-head victory allowed them to advance to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game.

14. One of the biggest matchups between the two happened in 2004 when Tennessee upset the back-to-back SEC East division champions, winning 19-14. That victory ruined Georgia’s chances of a national championship appearance.
