Vols compete at Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational

Tennessee’s cross country team competed against some of the best teams in the country Friday at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational. The field consisted of 19 nationally-ranked teams.

The Vols finished 23rd as a team in the 8k men’s championship race. Senior Zach Long was the top runner for the men, as he finished in 30th place (23:50.4).

The Tennessee women’s cross country team fared even better during the day. The Vols finished second as a team in the “B” 6k race. Freshman Katie Thronson impressed by grabbing a third-place finish (21:01.9). Junior Megan Murray was not far behind, as she finished fourth (21:07.1).

The Vols also had a five-man scoring team in the “B” 8K men’s race. Junior Gashaw Duhamel finished in 16th place (24:58.2), and Tennessee finished in 8th place overall as a team in the men’s B 8k race.

Northern Arizona finished in first place in the 8k men’s championship race, while Princeton notched first place in the “B” 8k men’s competition.

Michigan State edged out the Vols in the women’s “B” 8k race to finish in first place, one spot ahead of Tennessee.

The NCAA championships will be held in Wisconsin at the Thomas Zimmer Cross Country Course on Nov. 17.
