On Saturday April 5 the Love United Gospel Choir sponsored its annual Collegiate Gospel Explosion in the UC Ballroom at 6:00 p.m.  Pastor Roger Woods III hosted the event.

This year the guest choirs came from Tennessee Tech University, East Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee, Chattanooga and Overcoming Believers Church. Elijah’s Fire Mime group gave a special performance as well. LU hosts this event every year to give students on campus and members of the community a chance to come together and worship with people from out of town or from different churches.

Brandon Hambrick, a UT sophomore and LU’s choir Chaplin, says LU sponsors this event each year because it is symbolic of what God is going to do on campus.

“We want people to worship together,” said Hambrick. “Also we want to show people that worship can be fun.”

Though a large number of people attended the event, Hambrick wasn’t focused on the numbers.

“I am happy if people’s hearts were touched,” said Hambrick.  “Sure, the numbers are nice, but that’s not what we’re looking for.”

Pastor Woods, who serves as the pastor at New Birth of Knoxville and a Chaplin on campus, has hosted the Gospel Explosion twice. He introduced each choir and prayed for the members in the audience.

“I loved seeing everyone lifting Jesus’ name on campus,” said Woods. “It just shows that there is going to be a revival on campus.”

Pastor Woods is very involved when it comes to the youth (18-30) because he feels as though they are beneficial to spreading the Word.

The music, singing and dancing were not the only things people seemed to notice.

“Seeing different choirs and different people come together and worship was amazing and really beautiful to see,” said Savannah Clay, a UT freshman.
