After a tough 3-1 loss against Vanderbilt in its last contest, No. 17 Tennessee (10-2-2) battled the Georgia Bulldogs (4-7-4) to a 0-0 tie on Friday in Athens.

Tennessee played smothering defense for most of the night, creating a multitude of opportunities. Georgia went the first 15 minutes of the match without a shot, as Tennessee controlled the pace. The Vols had nine shots on goal compared to the Bulldogs’ two.

The Vols’ best chance to score came late in the second half when senior Mackenzie Gouner sliced through the Georgia defense and opened up a scoring opportunity. But Gouner’s attempt knocked against the post, leaving the score tied.

Senior Anna Bialczak led the Vols with five shots, and junior Ma Vignola led the team with three shots on goal.

For the second time this season, Tennessee took the field without Bunny Shaw, who is currently in Texas playing for the Jamaican National Team at the CONCACAF Women’s Championship. She leads the Vols with seven goals in 2018 despite missing her seventh game due to national team obligations.

Tennessee continues SEC play next Thursday night at home against LSU. The game is set for 7 p.m. on the SEC network.
