Historic Preservation in Knoxville has seen ups and downs since the movement formally began in the 1970s with the founding of Knox Heritage, a non profit group dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic buildings in East Tennessee. The past 40 years has seen success stories with beautiful buildings restored to their former glory, and unfortunate total losses of history.
