Homecoming week started Sunday, Oct. 27 and will include several social events each day hosted by the Campus Event Board. This week includes events that engage students with the University of Tennessee, Knoxville faculty and students.

Homecoming started on Oct. 27 and will continue through Nov. 2

The events began with Chalk Ped Walk yesterday at 1 p.m. Teams used its space to create designs promoting this year’s homecoming theme, “Lighting the Way.” The theme is to continue the celebration of 225 years of the university.

Traditional UT Homecoming events will go on throughout the week.

On Monday, students can expect the Homecoming Carnival, held at the Student Union, starting at 11 a.m. and the dyeing of the ‘Europa the Bull fountain’ at 2 p.m. As always, the fountain, found in the McClung Tower Plaza, will remain orange throughout the week.

For those looking to celebrate in an athletic way, the TRECS will host a three-on-three basketball tournament starting at 5 p.m. and the Spirit Run/Walk will begin at the Student Union Plaza at 6 p.m.

Engagement and inclusivity

On Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. a service fair will be held in the Student Union for students who are trying to get involved in outreach opportunities on campus.

Reaching out to the Knoxville community

Little Vols at the Ball Park will be held on Nov. 1 at 5:30 p.m. in the Lindsey Nelson Baseball Stadium, directly after the Homecoming Parade. This event is open to family and friends of UT in the community and will include crafts, games and snacks.

Homecoming parade

The Homecoming Parade is the pinnacle of Homecoming Week, marking the end of the week before the football game on Saturday. The annual parade will include the UT spirit squad, the Pride of the Southland Marching Band and many Homecoming floats.

The parade exhibits student organization floats, community vehicles and includes the eighth annual Little Vol Walk. The Little Vol Walk allows children ages 10 and younger to ride on strollers, tricycles or their own decorated wagons.

The floats will be judged at the intersection of Pedestrian Walkway and Volunteer Blvd. This year, the parade emcee will be Dr. Jill Zambito, Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Life.

Saturday tailgates

On Nov. 2, the Office of Multicultural Student Life is sponsoring a tailgate for all students to show their school spirit at the Frieson Black Cultural Center.

That same day, the Center for Student Engagement will host a tailgate at 4 p.m. at the Student Union Plaza before the UT vs. The University of Alabama at Birmingham game. They invite all student organizations to come celebrate and participate in games and activities.
