Opinion: ‘Batman v Superman’ lacks authenticity
Hannah Hitzfield reviews the highly anticipated “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
The epic stories of two superheroes collide in the recently released “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
The action-packed film tells the story of a destructive Superman, played by Henry Cavill, who needs to be put in his place by the legendary Dark Knight, played by Ben Affleck.
The way the two heroes fight throughout the movie lacks authenticity because of the overuse of special effects. While the two heroes battle it out, the evil villain Lex Luther, played by Jesse Eisenberg, awakens a new evil. Batman and Superman must put aside their differences in order to save the world from this villain. However, the casting of Eisenberg as such a recognizable character fell short due to his inability to capture true villainous qualities.
Unfortunately, the two and a half hour movie lacks a powerful narrative. The iconic figures in the movie were overshadowed by the amount of action and effects, leaving it almost impossible for moviegoers to grasp any true emotion.
Director Zach Snyder did a fair job of getting fans attention by introducing some eclectic themes and characters. For example, the addition of Wonder Woman was a nice surprise because there’s nothing quite like seeing three superheroes in one film.
Overall, there seemed to be a great idea, great cast and great storyline, but they all deserved to be tweaked just a bit to do the original comic book stories any justice.
