“Flashdance the Musical” will be bringing its vibrant dance numbers and iconic music to Knoxville’s historic Tennessee Theatre on Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. and showings at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Feb. 7.

Discounted tickets will be offered through The University of Tennessee’s Cultural Attractions Committee to students who chose to opt-in to the student services and programs fee.

“It’s a great deal,” said Caroline Norris, a member of the Cultural Attractions Committee. “Tickets are usually a lot more expensive than what you can get them through our committee.”

“Flashdance the Musical”, directed by Sergio Trujillo, is the Broadway adaptation of Adrian Lyne’s 1983 Oscar winning film. The musical tells the story of steel mill welder and bar dancer Alex Owens’ pursuit of becoming a professional performer. Through the biggest hit songs from the film, as well as 16 new songs, the musical portrays Owens’ romantic and complicated journey towards her dream.

“I’m excited for the music,” said Andrea Arreaza, chair of the Flashdance subcommittee. “Flashdance is just so iconic. It’s such an iconic thing that we all know what it is, but some of us don’t really know what it is. We haven’t experienced the craziness and the embarrassing look at the 80’s culture.”

“It’s definitely a cool way to see it and see a Broadway musical,” agreed Norris. “You get to go downtown and get that whole vibe, so it’s fun.”

Tickets are available for students to purchase at the Center for Student Engagement (room 305 in the University Center). Student IDs will be required at the event.
