UT Fraternity chapter suspended, must cease operations

The chapter’s suspension is in effect until the end of the semester, and a review of members by the national office will determine whether or not the suspension will be extended.
“All members at this time are now classified as alumni members not in good standing,” the release said.
Further, the release added that fraternity members who either lived in or had a contract to take meals from the house may continue to do so, but all other chapter operations must cease.
“The university has not taken any formal action against the fraternity,” said Katherine Saxon, a communications coordinator for UT’s Office of Communications and Marketing.
Lindi Smedberg, director of Fraternity and Sorority Life at UT, said that the best way for fraternities and sororities to avoid this is review the policies from UT and their National and International Organizations at least on a semester basis with their entire membership.
Jesse Lyons, Kappa Alpha Order’s assistant executive director for advancement, said that the National Administrative Office has nothing else to add about the suspension at this time.
