The 87th National Future Farmers of America Convention (FFA) and Expo drew over 60,000 FFA members and advisors from across the nation to Louisville, KY. For one UT student it reaffirmed her drive to be continually involved with the UT chapter.
University of Tennessee freshman student, Amy Morgan, attended her fifth National FFA Convention this year and had the opportunity to serve as a National delegate.
Morgan worked alongside 474 FFA members from across the nation to serve in committees and develop proposals regarding changes to National FFA’s programming and curriculum. She attended business sessions and voted on these proposals. She also voted to elect the new slate of National FFA Officers.
As she thinks back to her freshman year in high school, Morgan acknowledges how the convention has shaped her experiences.
“The convention that year opened my eyes to the incredible opportunities FFA offered,” said Morgan.“And my desire to become more involved in the conventions increased.”
Morgan said serving as a delegate this year changed her outlook on the National FFA convention as a whole.
“My perception changed from seeing the convention as a massive performance to one that was more unified and real,” Morgan said.
This process challenged the delegates to consider how FFA would remain relevant for the next 87 years; something Morgan was passionate about.
She credits her experiences in FFA with shaping her into the leader she has become now at UT.
“It has developed me into a leader who has a passion for serving others and advocating agriculture,” said Morgan.
