Motion pictures move into Tennessee Theatre
The classic 1954 film “Rear Window” directed by Alfred Hitchcock was brought back to the big screen on June 28 at the Tennessee Theatre in downtown Knoxville as part of the theater’s “Summer Movie Magic” program.
The movie, which stars James Stewart and Grace Kelly, is about a wheelchair bound photographer who spies on his neighbors from his apartment window and becomes convinced one of them has committed murder.
The historic Tennessee Theatre hosts the “Summer Movie Magic” series showing 1950-1970’s films such as “The Godfather Part II” and “Jaws.”
Hitchcock’s film brought out viewers of all ages, encouraging a family-safe atmosphere, which is the ultimate goal of the summer movie series.
The theater is located in the heart of downtown Knoxville and was opened in 1928 but has been renovated and restored numerous times since the initial commencement. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and honored as the Official State Theatre of Tennessee.
The antiquity of this event, from the venue to the film itself, made for an exceptional experience. The series lasts until the end of August, with “The Godfather Part II” and “National Lampoon’s Animal House” still to be shown.”
