The Market Square Farmer’s Market opens for its 10th season
The Market Square Farmer’s Market is an open-air environment farmer’s market located on Market Square in the heart of downtown Knoxville.
The Market is open from Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday from 9a.m. to 2p.m., May 1-November 23, 2013.This well kept secret is the highlight of most summers here in Knoxville. Everything at the MSFM is grown or made by the vendor in the East Tennessee region. Each product and its availability depend on its peak season. With varying activities, delicious local food and entertainment, the MSFM is a very intimate experience for you and your family to enjoy.
It was my pleasure interviewing and getting to know one of the many returning vendors. Sylvia Ann Duquet also known as “The Hat Lady”. Duquet has been making hats for 37 years. “I fell asleep with an unfinished hat in my hands, woke up the very next morning and it was done”, said Duquet. Turns out that Duquet had been crocheting in her sleep. It was as if it was second nature to her. When I asked Duquet was this soothing for her she replied, “ Oh yeah, otherwise I might be nervous all the time”. She is not only talented but a very philanthropic individual as well. Duquet would send about 300 hats a year to the Indian reservations for Christmas. Duquet’s hats are all one of a kind and one size fits all. For more information on “The Hat Lady” visit her website at htpp://www.visionoftheworld.com or email her at TheHatLady00@yahoo.com.
It was not long after I interviewed Duquet that I stubbled upon this man holding this adorable little angel that had to be at least 4 months. She was wearing the cutest little dress. After being serenaded by the little one’s serenity I noticed that I was surrounded by these little miniature creations. Clothes, dolls, and blankets. Each item is one of kind and handmade, each one having its very own uniqueness. I had the privileged in interviewing the artist husband. “The name of this Company is Evie May Creations, Tes Lefmann has been doing this for a couple of months now. However she has been sewing her entire life. She was taught as a child and it has been something she has enjoyed doing ever since,” Said husband Drew Lefmann. The beautiful creations have always been something that Tess has enjoyed doing. It has always been her destresser. For any information the couple has an Etsy account under the company name, EVIE MAY CREATIONS.
There is Free parking available in the Market Square, Locust St. and State St. Garages, and at meters, on Saturdays. Parking is $1 per hour on Wednesdays in all three garages. All KAT transit routes serving the Knoxville Station Transit Center are a few convenient walking blocks from Market Square. Also, fare-free KAT trolleys also provide nearby service as well. The MSFM will be here until November 23, 2013, so go see what they have to offer you and your family. With 10 seasons of expertise I doubt they leave you unsatisfied.
