Top SEC performers from week eight

Leonard Fournette, LSU RB

After missing several games due to injury, Leonard Fournette propelled LSU to a win over Ole Miss on Saturday with a dominant performance. Fournette gained a ridiculous 284 yards on only 16 carries, good for 17.8 yards per carry. He also scored three touchdowns. Adding his 25 receiving yards into the mix, Fournette finished the evening with 309 total yards of offense.

Stephen Johnson, Kentucky QB

Led by quarterback Stephen Johnson, Kentucky was involved in a back-and-forth affair against Mississippi State. Johnson ended with two touchdowns and 292 total yards. On the season, he only has two interceptions, making him one of the most reliable quarterbacks in the SEC. Coming off two uncharacteristic performances against Alabama and Vanderbilt, Johnson proved that he is still determined to win games and show off his abilities as a quarterback.

Jalen Hurts, Alabama QB

Week after week, Jalen Hurts proves he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the SEC despite being a true freshman. With another win against the previously unbeaten Texas A&M Aggies, Alabama made it obvious who the best team in the college football is. Hurts was an integral part of that statement on Saturday, as he completed 15-of-25 passes for 164 yards and two touchdowns. In addition, he added 93 yards on the ground with a game-clinching touchdown run. The Crimson Tide are arguably the most talented team in the entire country. It all starts with the true freshman at quarterback.

Auburn Offense

With its crushing victory over Arkansas, Auburn continues its surprising season and further solidified itself as one of the SEC’s best teams despite two losses. The Tigers put up 56 points on the Razorbacks on Saturday. Leading the way was sophomore running back Kamryn Pettway, who carried the ball 27 times for 192 yards and two touchdowns. He didn’t do it alone, though. Auburn rushed for a total of 543 yards — the most ever in a SEC-conference game during the regular season — and seven scores.
