Vol Walk of Life helps students choose careers

The Multicultural Mentoring Program, the Student Government Association and the Offices of Career Services hosted the “Vol Walk of Life: New Vols Edition” at the Black Cultural Center Wednesday, Oct. 1.

Colleges such as the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources and the College of Communication and Information showed students how to choose and declare a major and then use their major to find a career path. The advising representatives set up pictures and informative brochures about their respective colleges. Academic coaches and Career Service professionals also attended to assist students.

Students spoke to a Career Services professional or an academic coach and learned more about the colleges that were present.

“The purpose of this event was to provide a space for first year students to explore major options, understand the process of selecting a major and connect to resources that will aid them in successfully declaring a major,” said Dametraus Jaggers, the associate director for Retention and Student Engagement of the Office of Multicultural Student Life.

Booths were set up around the Black Cultural Center. Students who attended the fair received several opportunities to see what they would experience with a career.

“I wanted to see what different careers I could use with my major,” said Ryan Hamby, a freshman majoring in Computer Science.
