The polls open in Tennessee for early voting in the nationwide presidential election and the statewide general election on Oct. 19 and close on Nov. 3.
There are 10 other voting locations accessible in Knoxville for the duration of the early voting period. Each location has varying hours of operations, with all polls definitively closing at 8 p.m. If a voter is in line by 8 p.m., they are still allowed to vote.
Students may find it most convenient to vote at the Howard Baker Jr. Center on campus, located at 1640 Cumberland Ave., across from Panda Express, only open for the final four days of early voting from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3.
State-issued or federal-issued identification is required to vote, such as a valid driver’s license, a passport or a military ID card.
Other than voting for the President of the United States, Knox county voters will be electing official to represent District 2 for the Tennessee House of Representatives, Tennessee Senate and U.S. House of Representatives.
Candidates for Tenn. District 2 include incumbent Bud Hulsey (R) and J. S. Moore (D) for Tenn. House of Representatives, incumbent Doug Overbey (R) running for Tenn. Senate unopposed, and incumbent John J. Duncan Jr (R) and Stuart Starr (D) for U.S. House of Representatives.
Those registered in a county other than Knox County can request an absentee ballot from their county of residence to vote by mail, assuming they have voted in person in their county of residence at least once. Absentee ballots must be requested by Nov. 1.
Early voting is designed to make voting more convenient by expediting the process with likely shorter lines and allowing more of an opportunity to access voting locations that fit voter schedules, including Saturdays.
Election day will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 8.
