Ijams Nature Center in Knoxville, Tenn. celebrated the grand opening of their Plaza Pet Station Thursday afternoon. The Small Breed Rescue of East Tennessee and other pet businesses excitedly gathered for the station’s commencement.

Paul James, Executive Directive of Ijams Nature Center, said the center has experienced great growth over the past several years. They are now the home to 12 miles of trails that rest on over 300 acres.

James was excited about the addition of the pet station, hoping that it would serve the visitors who bring their pets to enjoy the outdoors.

“Over 110,000 individuals visited Ijams last year,” said James. “I hope that the Pet Station would create a greater experience for pet owners in the future.”

The station is primarily funded by PetSafe.  John Brynda, program manager for PetSafe said that this project is step toward making Knoxville “the most pet friendly community.” He hopes that this will encourage pet owners to spend more time outside interacting with their furry friends.

PetSafe has worked to improve opportunities for pet owners to enjoy their pets in public around Knoxville.
