Utah State graduate transfer Lew Evans commits to Tennessee

Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Vols receive a much-needed boost in the front court with the addition of graduate transfer Lew Evans.

Lew Evans, a 6-foot-9 fifth-year forward from Utah State, committed to the Vols Monday. Evans averaged 8.4 points and 5.6 rebounds per game for the Aggies last season and will help the Vols in the post after forward Ray Kasongo announced last month that he was going to transfer.

Evans recorded three double-doubles for Utah State last season, tying the team lead. In addition, he scored in double figures 11 times and shot 35 percent from beyond the arc. Evans also displayed intelligence on defense, drawing a team-high 13 charges last season.

Before playing for the Aggies, Evans played at Tulsa, where he started most of the games for the Hurricane in 2013-14 and helped them receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament after winning the Conference USA Tournament.

This move adds more experience to a roster with only one senior in Robert Hubbs III. Evans’ immediate availability provides the versatility and consistency in the post on both ends of the courts the Vols so desperately need.
