Auburn vs Georgia preview and prediction

One of the more underrated rivalry games — the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry — will be played this Saturday at 3:30pm ET on CBS. This is a great choice for the CBS game because no matter the records of both teams, it’s always entertaining.

Bo Jackson, Herschel Walker, Vince Dooley, and Pat Dye are just some of the names that should drum up fond memories of this game. If you’re a fan of smack talk and raw emotion, this is a can’t miss game.

No. 8 Auburn (7-2, SEC 5-1) is coming off of a hard fought win against Vanderbilt. And, for the first time in a while, the Tigers didn’t look completely dominant for all 60 minutes. However, Auburn running back Kamryn Pettway didn’t skip a beat — he rushed for 173 yards on 25 carries. Pettway seems to be carrying this team offensively and the bad news for the rest of the conference is that he doesn’t appear to be slowing down.

On the other hand, the young Vanderbilt quarterback — Kyle Shurmur — threw for 221 yards on the Auburn secondary last week. This is a good sign for the Bulldogs (5-4, SEC 3-4) who also boast a young quarterback with a bright future in Jacob Eason.

Georgia is coming off of a gritty win against a tough Kentucky squad. Eason delivered in that game, and he threw for 245 yards and a touchdown. Georgia was also able to get its running game going as well. Sony Michel ran for 127 yards and a touchdown while Nick Chubb tacked on an additional 85 yards.

Prediction

Both Georgia and Auburn beat similar teams in terms of talent last week. Both Georgia and Auburn showed a strong run game and an above average passing game that should carry over to this week. However, Auburn has looked strong all season and that can’t be ignored. Auburn will win this game, but it won’t be a blowout between the Hedges in Georgia. Auburn defeats the Bulldogs, 34-27.
