Who has the edge: Florida vs Georgia

Both the Gators and the Bulldogs come into their rivalry game under different circumstances. Who has the upper hand?

No changes made.

The annual Georgia vs Florida matchup will commence in Jacksonville this weekend.

For the Gators and Bulldogs, their performances lately are drastically different. Florida is coming off an easy 40-14 win over Missouri. This win, paired with Tennessee’s loss to Alabama, puts the Gators in driver’s seat in the SEC East race. In contrast, Georgia is coming off an embarrassing home loss to Vanderbilt.

Florida clearly has the edge in this matchup. The dominant defense alone will be able to push the Gators past the Bulldogs in this matchup. So far on the season, Florida’s defense has only allowed 12 points per game. Last week, the Gator secondary held the Tigers to 98 yards passing, forcing Missouri to become a one-dimensional offense. Georgia freshman quarterback Jacob Eason struggled mightily against South Carolina two weeks ago throwing the ball. If Florida can stuff the Bulldogs’ ground game, it’ll be a long day for Kirby Smart’s offense.

The Gators also have the edge on offense with Luke Del Rio back under center. Del Rio threw for 236 yards in his first game back from injury last weekend. However, he also threw three interceptions. If he can manage the game and limit his mistakes, Florida’s offense should be able to grind out points. Although Georgia’s run defense was stingy against Vanderbilt, the Gators are averaging nearly 182 rushing yards per game this season.

With the combination of offense and defense, the Gators definitely have the edge in this matchup. In a crucial division matchup, Florida will grind out enough points to scoot past a struggling Georgia offense. With the win, the Gators will stay atop the SEC East before a difficult road test against Arkansas next week.
