UT’s Board of Trustees student representative resigned from his position on Friday, Nov. 21.

R.J. Duncan, a sophomore double majoring in finance and marketing, was a member of the “We are UT” campaign team. Duncan was elected Student Representative in the 2014 SGA (Student Government Association) election.

There is no process in place to fill this position should it become vacant, according to the University of Tennessee’s Student Government Association Constitution. However, Dean of Students Melissa Shivers, SGA Program Coordinator Abigail Brumfield, SGA President Kelsey Keny and SGA Vice President Connor Dugosh met and decided on a replacement initiative used in other SEC Universities should there be a resignation.

The SGA executive committee will compile a list of three nominations. They will be submitted to Student Senate for approval at a meeting on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. in the University Center’s Shiloh Room.

SGA will have three nominations prepared to send to the Office of the Governor by the end of the first week of December.

Once approved, these names will be submitted to the Office of the Governor in Nashville. The rest of the procedure is entirely at Governor Haslam’s discretion.
