TNJN Spotlight: Electronic sound inspires DJ False Panic

Ruckus Entertainment and 1200 Hustle throw “Secret Stash” shows every Saturday at the Bowery.
Andrew played guitar for eleven years but became interested in electronic music and music production after attending a Bassnectar concert in 2009.
“It was my friend Jordan Dehaan that invited me, and I’d been strictly into metal before. I didn’t even know what electronic music sounded like. A week later I started producing.” Andrew said.
Many of his influences include progressive metal bands Dream Theater, Opeth, Periphery, but also electronic artists Noisia, Skrillex and 16bit. He has been producing music for five years and currently is working on his most recent project, False Panic.
“False Panic started off as dubstep/electro house brand, but it’s spinning off all genres of electronic music, with roots from dubstep and of course progressive rock and metal.” Andrew said.
Andrew is currently majoring in Political Science and minoring in Business Administration at the University of Tennessee. Alongside his academic career, he usually is making music and more recently, collaborating with other artists.
“I’ve finished two collaborations and plan to do a third.” Andrew said.
He has worked with the Knoxville-based musical project Moniker (Brandon Reid and Jacob Tullos) on a remix of their original, “Fat With A PHD“, as well as another artist, Jlo Bro, on a collaborative VIP of one of False Panic’s original songs, “Spirit Warrior.”,
“I’m currently working with AFK on a so far untitled song for Firepower Records,” he said. “We’re going to get a vocalist, as well; it’s got a ‘bloodbath electro’ feel to it, I’m really excited!”
The False Panic brand just turned three on Oct.18, but when Andrew first started in music production, he worked with his original project, titled Transistance.
“It was a way of getting to know music production.” Andrew said. “I didn’t have more than 100 followers. It was really my friends that pushed me along.”
Andrew also lived in Orlando, Fla. before moving to Knoxville to attend the University of Tennessee. Even then, he said he knew a job in the music industry would be his eventual career.
