The most popular event of Sex Week 2013 came back for another round in 2014.

On March 6 at 9 p.m. in the UC Auditorium, Lambda Student Union held its annual drag show fundraiser as part of Sex Week. The drag show gave LGBT students a chance to strut their stuff, showcase their sexuality and challenge gender roles.

“It was kind of a whirl wind of crazy,” said Kevin Brown, junior and executive board member of Sex Week. “A lot of hair flying everywhere, a lot of very tight clothing flying everywhere, but overall I would say it was a very amazing experience.”

The show got off to a late start, and the audience decided to forgo intermission in order to see all of the performances. Drag queens and kings lip-synced to popular songs in front of a packed auditorium that cheered and sang along with them.

“I had so much fun working with Nickie Hackenbrack and Alexandera Chiasson [Sex Week executive members],” Brown said. “I think it wouldn’t have been the same without them.”

The drag show is Lambda’s main fundraiser for campus activities and events to raise awareness for LGBTQ issues.

Audience members were encouraged to come to the stage and tip performers. This year’s show featured performances from members of the Sex Week executive board and local drag queens Anastasia Alexander from Carousel 2, Jessica J from Club XYZ and UT alum Diana Hart.

Anastasia, who participated in last year’s drag show, was the most popular among the performers.

“I loved all the performers but Anastasia was definitely my favorite,” said drag queen Victoria Frost, who has been performing for three years.

Even first-time attendees were impressed by the event and look forward to next year’s drag show.
