UT NAMED A ‘BEST VALUE’ PUBLIC COLLEGE

The Princeton Review listed the University of Tennessee as one of the top 75 public colleges and universities in its “Best Value Colleges for 2014” issue, which compared public and private schools in areas including cost, financial aid, academic quality and campus life. The top schools were selected from more than 2,000 institutions.

UPCOMING ON-CAMPUS JOB FAIRS

Students are encouraged to attend two major job fairs on campus this week. The Diversity Job Fair will be held in the University Center Ballroom Monday from 3-5 p.m. followed by the Spring Job and Internship Fair in Thompson-Boling Arena Tuesday from 2-6 p.m.

WINTER OLYMPICS BEGIN

The XXII Olympic Winter Games will begin in Sochi on Thursday with snowboarding and figure skating events. The opening ceremony will take place Friday in Sochi’s Fisht Olympic Stadium, and the Games will go on until Feb. 23. NBC will be streaming all events live online at NBCOlympics.com.

ALL-SING COMPETITION FRIDAY

The All Campus Events committee will present the annual All-Sing competition in which student groups show off their vocal skills on stage on Friday in the Cox Auditorium in the Alumni Memorial Building at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online now. Prices are $10 for students and $15 for the general public.

ICE BEARS TO HOST WIENER DOG RACES

Dozens of wiener dogs will take to the ice as the Knoxville Ice Bears face the Pensacola Ice Flyers on Sunday, Feb. 9. Pet owners have a chance to win some doggie prizes if their weenie dog makes it to the other side of the rink first. Check out a video from a previous race here.
