Titans vs Colts Recap November 15th 2013

The Tennessee Titans suffered another disappointing loss Thursday night to the division rival Indianapolis Colts 30-27. The Titans looked very impressive coming out of the gate jumping to an early 17-6 lead at half time. However, the Colts erased that deficit quickly.

Coming out of half time Andrew Luck lead an impressive drive going completing five of his next five passes and leading the Colts on an 11 play 74-yard drive resulting in a touchdown. Immediately after their score the Titans kick off returner Devin Wylie fumbled, and the Colts recovered the ball at the Tennessee 20-yard line.  The Colts didn’t waste any time and scored a touchdown in less than a minute taking a 20-17 lead.

Going into the 4th quarter the Titans got to within three points, however Indianapolis’s offense scored another touchdown putting them up by 10 points. Fitzgerald and the Titans answered back by scoring a quick touchdown making the score 30-27 with 1:54 remaining in the game. The Titans then attempted an onside kick, but it failed. Indianapolis then kneed the ball out sealing a victory, and taking supremacy over the AFC South.

In order to make the playoffs the Titans are going to have to snap out of their funk as they travel to Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum to take on the Oakland Raiders Sunday, November 17th, at 1:00 pm eastern time. The Raiders are 3-6 coming off a loss to the New York Giants.

Key notes: Titans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick played well completing 22-28 passes without any turnovers. However, the Titans failed to take advantage of exposing the Colt’s secondary deep. In the second half, the Titans offense stalled, because Indianapolis’s game plan was to take away the quick and short passes, by running cover one press coverage. Therefore, the deep ball was open, but the Titans failed to take advantage of the Colt’s one high safety.

Chris Johnson played one of his best games of the season totaling 86 yards off 17 carries. Johnson failed to be much of a factor in the 2nd half of the game. He was limited to four carries for just six yards.

The Titans defense played well in the first half only giving up 6 points. But in the second half the defense played very poorly. They failed to wrap up Colt’s running back Donald Brown on several occasions allowing him to rush for 80 yards on 14 carries with two touchdowns.
