Knoxville Choral Society’s winter season off to good start
Some say the voice is man’s greatest instrument, but for the Knoxville Chamber Chorale, it is the only instrument. When their talent is combined with that of the Choral Society’s instrumental and vocal groups, the result becomes something both beautiful and haunting.
This coordination is the work of Eric Thorson, choral director at Carson-Newman University and founder of the Knoxville Chamber Chorale. The Chamber Chorale is an elite group ascended from the ranks of the Choral Society’s members and represents their best and brightest vocalists.
The Choral Society kicked off their winter concert season with thunderous applause Saturday at the historic Bijou Theater, sampling selections from J.S. Bach’s Magnificat and G.F. Handel’s Messiah. These classic pieces are distinct from the rest of their winter line-up because they were chosen specifically for the Christmas season. The remainder of their 2013-2014 concerts, which resume on March 1 of next year, will be focused on standard choral pieces.
Those who missed the concert aren’t out of luck. Many Knoxville venues are hosting a variety of live music events this season, with UT being one of them.
More details on future shows coming soon.
