Smokey celebrates 60 years as UT’s mascot
UT’s favorite pooch celebrated a milestone birthday on Friday, Oct. 4 on UT’s campus with students and fans who were excited to take part in the celebration. This year marks Smokey’s 60th birthday as he was originally introduced as the school’s mascot in 1953.
The Student Alumni Association at UT held a party for Smokey on Pedestrian Walkway. At the celebration, appearances were made by Smokey X himself as well as Smokey the mascot. Free food and drinks, including birthday cake, were offered to students there to enjoy the event. Students were given the opportunity to cheer on Smokey while enjoying themselves in a lively, engaging environment.
“Celebrating Smokey’s birthday has been a lot of fun. I love the support he’s had so far, along with all the amazing school spirit we’ve shown today,” said Jennifer Mathewson, sophomore nursing major.
The event allowed students and fans passing by to relax and enjoy being a part of a special time in UT’s history.
