Social Media Week to feature BuzzFeed, Sports Illustrated staff
The College of Communication and Information will host its 2014 Social Media Week.The week long event will feature a nationally recognized panel of experts from BuzzFeed and Sports Illustrated to host discussions and presentations.
“The sessions for Social Media Week 2014 are highly interactive,” said Donna Silvey, communication specialist in the School of Information Sciences. “The speakers are exceptionally knowledgeable about social media topics and issues.”
Paul Finebaum, radio and television host for ESPN, will give the keynote speech titled “Social Media’s Influence on the Impartial Voice of the SEC.” Finebaum graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1978.
“This is a new slate of panelists and speakers this year with completely new sessions and topics,” said Silvey.
Different topics include understanding cyberbullying, how to brand using social media and how ESPN uses social media.
Social media has become a large part of the lives of students at UT and this week is an opportunity to show how those that are graduated and working use it to their advantage.
“This event is just one example of the great work our college is doing to develop and deliver an innovative curriculum to address the ever-changing environment within which our graduates will be working,” said Mike Wirth, dean of the College of Communication and Information.
All events for the week are free and open to the public to attend with the exception of Finebaum due to limited space. Open discussion is welcomed.
