The Tennessee Volunteer baseball team (18-14, 3-9 SEC) was swept by the No. 6 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks (28-5, 10-2 SEC) this past weekend.

On Friday, the Vols’ attempted to rally in the seventh inning by scoring four runs. Ultimately, they fell short, losing 7-6.

Tennessee kept pace with the Gamecocks on Saturday. However, after tying the game 4-4 in the fifth inning, South Carolina tacked on three runs and shut the Vols out for the remainder of the game in a 7-4 series-clinching win.

Sunday’s game featured a golden opportunity for the Vols to avoid a series sweep. Down 4-3 in the top of the ninth, Tennessee loaded the bases with no outs. However, a groundout, strikeout and pop-up abruptly ended the Vols’ comeback bid.
