Preview: Titans vs Chargers
This Sunday the Titans play the San Diego Chargers at LP Field in Nashville. Both teams started their seasons 1-1 and look to come out of Sunday with a winning record.
The Titans’ secondary will have their hands full this Sunday with the potent combination of Phillip Rivers and Eddie Royal. Rivers has thrown for 614 yards and hit pay-dirt seven times. Worth noting, five of these scores were to Eddie Royal. These numbers put Rivers only behind Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers in QB Passer Ratings with a 115.2. Through two games the Chargers are averaging 307 yards passing and 3.5 touchdowns in the air.
With that said, the Titans’ defenders aren’t slouches. They have forced five turnovers, including three interceptions, in the first two weeks. They are also allowing 10 points less per game than the Chargers defense.
Another asset in this week’s matchup will be running back Chris Johnson. He has 166 yards on the ground this year and will take pressure off of quarterback Jake Locker as the Chargers look to stop the run. Conversely, while the Chargers’ air attack has flourished, their run game has been rather lack luster. Even with Eddie Royal and veteran tight end Antonio Gates playing at top levels, the Titans’ should give them quite a battle for 60 minutes.
This AFC showdown is scheduled to take place at 1pm EST in Nashville. The Chargers aerial attack look to soar over the staunch Titans defense and secondary at their home stadium. Only one team can leave Sunday with a winning 2-1 record, so this game should prove to be an exciting clash for the fans at LP Field.
