Tennessee vs Florida: Cam Sutton in the spotlight

As the Vols take the field Saturday afternoon in one of the biggest games in recent memory, Cam Sutton and Demarcus Robinson will battle in a match up that could very well decide the game.

When you first look at this match-up the similarities of both players jump out at you. Both are from the state of Georgia, both are true sophomores, both are 6’1″ and right around 200 pounds and both demand the spotlight.

What’s great about this match-up there is no height or weight advantage, it’s just two great football players facing each other. Let the best man win.

Demarcus Robinson has started this year as the bright spot on a Florida offense that has been bad…to say the least. The former four-star receiver out of Fort Valley, Georgia has had a monster year so far with 23 receptions for 353 yards and three touchdowns. He single handedly carried Florida against Kentucky and saved them from what could’ve been a disastrous result.

Cam Sutton has been the Vols star cornerback since the day he stepped on the practice field here in Rocky Top. The former three-star prospect out of Jonesboro, Georgia has been the gem in Butch Jones 2013 recruiting class that was hastily put together. The Freshman All-Sec defensive back already has four interceptions in his career, including two this season. He isn’t just a coverage guy either, Sutton already has 58 tackles in his career and a fumble recovery in The Swamp last season.

However, Sutton may also have another factor in his favor Saturday, The Gators quarterback, Jeff Driskel. Driskel has struggled all year and has many fans calling for his job as the starter. Not to be forgotten either is the fact that Robinson tweeted about wanting a quarterback change two weeks ago after their game against #2 Alabama.

Give Driskel his due though, he has torched the Vols in the past and even before his injury last year he had a pair of touchdowns through the air. However, these aren’t the same teams in any shape or form from the past seasons. It will be interesting to see how much he’ll test the waters against Sutton come Saturday.

All in all, I’ll give the edge to Sutton. The guy plays with a level of swagger and confidence that is unmatched in the SEC right now and with Robinson having no physical advantages plus Driskel throwing him the ball, Sutton will be a threat to make a play all afternoon.
