Preview: Holiday events in Knoxville 2019

There will be tons of events happening all around Knoxville this holiday season.

December has arrived, and with it the holidays are here. All around there is Christmas music, decorations and festivities to get everyone in the holiday spirit. During this holiday season, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville has many events happening throughout December. Additionally, Knoxville will be bustling with events as well.

Here are a few events happening this month:

The 32nd Annual Nutcracker on Ice

This performance runs from Dec. 4 through Dec. 8. The shows start at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and ends Sunday. Additionally, there will be a matinee showing at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The performance is about a little girl named Claire who has a magical Christmas night. Anyone of any age and skill set can play a role in making this story come to life. Tickets can be purchased online.

The 47th Annual WIVK Christmas Parade

This annual parade will go through Downtown Knoxville on Dec. 6, starting on Church Street at 7 p.m. There will be live music and dancers along with characters and Santa Claus floats that will be lit up. This event is family-friendly.

The 13th Annual Tour de Lights

This event is a family-friendly bike ride through the downtown and North Knoxville areas. The tour starts at 5:30 p.m. Visit Knoxville and Bike Walk Knoxville are hosting the event. This bike ride is free, and the community is invited to not only participate but to also decorate their bikes for the festivities. Riders will start under the Jackson Ave. bridge, and the tour ends in Market Square.

UT Pride Center’s Holigay Party

The Pride Center at UT is hosting its Holigay Party from 4-6 p.m. on Dec. 4. There will be crafts, free food and fun activities. Additionally, there will be an ugly sweater contest for anyone who wants to participate. This party provides an opportunity for attendees to interact with each other and share their holiday spirit on campus.

Holiday Wreath Making

UT Gardens will be hosting a wreath making class on Dec. 7 from 1-3 p.m. Participants can make their own holiday wreaths using fresh greenery from the garden as well as decorations that the host will provide. Participants can even bring their own decorations if they want to. Tickets are $30 for garden members and $40 for non-members.

A Christmas Carol

A Christmas Carol is playing at Clarence Brown Theatre from Nov. 27- Dec. 21. This annual play follows Ebenezer Scrooge as he goes through a personal transformative journey and  discovers the joys of generosity and compassion. The shows will start at 7:30 p.m. with a couple of 2 p.m. matinee showings as well. Interested parties can purchase tickets at the box office, online or call the theatre. Students can get a discount if they provide their student IDs. Ticket prices vary.
